The PERFORMING ARTS PATHWAY (THEATRE PRODUCTION) is a set of 2 courses in the Arts, Media & Entertainment industry sector.
In all Career Technical Education (CTE) courses you can expect: Rigorous Academics, Technical Mastery & Professional Skills.
The courses need to be accomplished in succession with a C- or better in the capstone course in order to be considered a pathway completer. Additional participation in the Career Technical Student Organization: International Thespian Society (Thespians) is encouraged.
 
From design thinking, to creative writing, practical application of building and logistical planning, and of course performance, the art of making something out of nothing is utilizing industry standard methods and equipment, pathway participants experience roles center stage, backstage, and beyond as they produce both original and published works. Exploring the history of theatre students will learn about the impact theatre has had our our culture as well as discover career opportunities available in the world of production, design, and performance. Students accomplishing the pathway will enter college or the workforce with resume building skills like leadership, presentation ability, writing and design strengths, as well as technical knowledge of theatre equipment and performance techniques.

Introduction to Professional Theater
Year: 9 - 11
RCHS Graduation Requirement: VAPA
UC/CSU - F
Units of study include: Working as a Creative Artist, Exploring Theatre History, Acting Techniques, and Design & Technical Theatre. In-class performances and presentations required (no public performance).

Advanced Theater Performance
Year: 10 - 12
RCHS Graduation Requirement: Elective
UC/CSU - G
Prerequisite: Introduction to Professional Theatre or instructor approval 
This “workshop” course includes participation as cast or crew for the Lenaea High School Theatre Festival, Storybook Theatre tour and a mainstage Studio Theatre production. Course includes guest speakers, field trips, and competitions. Extracurricular rehearsals and public performance as cast or crew member is required.
