About RCHS RC Raiders Esports
About RCHS RC Raiders Esports
RCHS Esports
RCHS Esports (RC Raiders Esports) E-athletes compete, playing video games against other High School students. Interested? Then click on the links on the left. Students hold & compete in tourneys, join Leagues, scrim w/collegiate or ranked teams/individuals, all while becoming better players & forging deeper connections w/our RCHS & larger communities.
SIGN-UP
Sign-up by clicking on one of the links to games. Mr. Smith will send you an invite to an Orientation meeting, a specific Team meeting, and then he'll help you sign-up on the appropriate League site.
HOW DO I PLAY?
You play from your home. You meet up with your team & your opponents online. Everyone plays from home. IF we could afford to set-up our RC Esports Homework & Gaming Lab, we COULD play there!
Tournaments - RCHS & the larger Community
Fall Tourney Days are not scheduled this academic year. Each Season we decide Tourney Days. Tournaments take place in NASEF, PlayVS, and HSEL - all leagues supporting high school students. Some Teams may be scrimming w/college teams, etc., in an effort to improve our player's skills, foster relationships, & give insight into University life & higher level gaming.
Communication
Discord is the name of a communication application which is catered to those who play video games. Joining Discord is free, & allows those who use it to communicate with team mates or entire teams. I will send you a private message (pm or dm) asking you who you are, so please reply to me message. RCHS students Click HERE if you're interested in our Esports teams. Students and/or parents will be sent an invitation to our Remind after filling out a form.
Communication is ESSENTIAL to our teams function. Almost all students use Remind. Therefore, Remind will be our primary form of communicating with the team this season. Discord, email, and posts on this website, will try to be kept up to date as much as possible.
Gamertags, in-game-names (IGNs), email addresses, phone numbers, Discord names, Twitch channels, YouTube channels, etc., are frequently needed, when they exist, in order to get in touch with players.
HSEL
We presently compete in two leagues, including the largest league in the country for Esports - the High School Esports League (HSEL). To join HSEL, students must be signed up by approved faculty or staff (or verified separately as part of "OPEN" competition). 1 Season is $89 per person/season. However, with approved grants from the Varsity Esports Foundation, our cost for 1 student, is 4 Seasons, at only $45 to $50 per person. We currently are trying to do some fund raising to collect this money.
Our current season Roster Count can be found here. 2020 Fall Total Roster = 97. HSEL Roster RC = 78. Also, a small widget or image with the current roster count will be eventually added somewhere on our homepage.
When & What is played
Some games are included because of their popularity in the Esport community. A tentative or possible list of games is released. Signups start. Just before signups for the season end, the list of games is sometimes narrowed, due to lack of interest. It is always BEST to sign-up for your games early. Payment can come later, after we know we can play.
HSEL has 4 seasons - 2 MAJORS and 2 OPENS - 1 NATIONAL FINALS (held in Summer)
SUMMER OPEN (early JULY to late AUGUST)
FALL MAJOR (mid OCTOBER to mid DECEMBER)
WINTER OPEN (early JANUARY to late FEBRUARY)
SPRING MAJOR (mid MARCH to late MAY)
Each game is played ONCE per week, against one opponent, for 8 weeks. Each season ends in FINALS competition, within each game. The top 3 or 4 teams from each division, plus 1-4 wild-cardsare selected to compete in each season's finals. The top 4 teams each season are eligible to play in the National Finals.
Squads & Solo play
No matter which or how many you play, ALL games are played from home, or from your connection. Students connect with their squads online and will 'meet up' with their opponents online. Each squads individuals will simply play from home, while competing. RCHS doesn't presently have an unfiltered internet connection needed to maintain a connection to certain servers, has fluctuating 'ping', doesn't support Twitch streaming, and doesn't have the gaming hardware and software needed onhand.
Collegiate & Pro Esports
As this database is new, I'm hoarding this information at the moment. Once it's refined, I'll add some details for you (and those outside our RCHS family) can access it.
RCHS Gaming Lab
My dream is to build the RCHS Homework & Esports Gaming Lab. Squad & solo practice time, in a gaming chair, on a great system, with great gear, would hinge on you wrapping up that HW - clearly, I'd be there to help get you started & make sure your done. Once your done, it's on! To make this dream come true, we need help from our community - our physical communities and those with whom we commune in game.

Rainbow 6
Rainbow 6: Siege is played competitively in the High School Esports League on PC, Sony PlayStation & Xbox consoles. If you'd like to signup for one of the teams below, just click on this link. We usually have enough players to field 2-3 PS teams & 2-3 Xbox teams, and at least 1 PC Team.
Each team must have a minimum of 5 players, and maximum of 9. Usually, 5 regular players are selected, and the remaining are substitutes. However, some regular players may be frequently swapped, at team discretion.
OVERWATCH
OVERWATCH on PC is typically the only version available during Majors for all current known scholarships. Using a controller is acceptable, but it has to be done while playing on a PC. 6 players are needed for a full squad, and substitutes are frequently also required.
LoL
RCHS is fortunate to have a strong set of League of Legends players. IF YOU PLAY LEAGUE OF LEGENDS... AT ALL ... seriously consider joining our team. LoL is played exclusively on PC in competition. LoL has the strongest set of scholarships and some of the highest payouts in professional competition. Each team requires 5 players.
League is not currently played in HSEL, so players must signup for PlayVS. CIF recognizes LoL in the PlayVS league as a legitimate sport.
CSGO
Counter Strike is one of the oldest squad based competitive video games and exceptionally resilient. It still boasts some of the largest scholarship opportunities, and some of the highest prize money in professional competition. CSGO is played in squads of five exclusively on PC for competition.
Fortnite
Fortnite is played ONLY as a solo game this season, Fall 2020. RCHS exclusive solos tournaments for team members are held twice per year for seeding purposes.
RocketLeague
Played 3 v 3, and styled as a soccer match played in souped-up vehicles, this game has become incredibly popular in the pro-gaming community, and is supported on HSEL, PlayVS, and sometimes other leagues.
COD
Call of Duty, MW GF, in Duos is being offered this season. Duos will compete in the first to 6 games by two, or first to 7.
PUBG
PUBG is on most lists as the likeliest game to become the epitome of the earliest Royale type games. Most players agree that Fortnite is easier to play, but that franchise is quickly waning, along with the heir apparent APEX. PUBG's numbers are at least maintaining, if not growing, steadily. Professional competitions are garnering high purses, and many in the community believe that it has the 'legs' to last.

SuperSmash
Nintendo's Super Smash series has become a mainstay in Esports. For this and future seasons the most recent iteration of the game, SSB Ultimate, will be featured competitively in HSEL. RCHS Alum and founding member, DTM made it to the finals in both of the HSEL Majors last year! DTM also organized and managed the first three RCHS Super Smash Tourneys! Click on the appropriate links below for more info.

Sports Titles
NBA2k, FIFA & MADDEN, are the dominant titles here, with a majority of the competition being 1v1. Some sports titles, like NBA2K, are played at the professional level, in full teams - 5v5. For now, HS competition is 1v1. We expect this may expand in the future, and I'd while I'm looking for solo players, I will endeavor to build scrim squads to play against amateurs and pros whenever possible. Time will tell if we can find a way to connect with our local NBA2k franchise club, about 10 miles away over the river - Kings Guard.
Fortnite
Fortnite is played in solos mode only at the moment. RCHS exclusive solos tournaments for team members are held twice per year for seeding purposes.
DBFZ
Dragon Ball Fighter Z may be in competition at the moment, and appears about twice per year on average. Check HSEL's website for current competition.
Hearthstone
Hearthstone is a mainstay of competition, and appears at least twice per year. Check all leagues to see whether or not it's being played presently.
Other Fighters
There are a plethora of other fighting games out there and the Street Fighter series probably has the best chance of being an addition to or replacement of DBFZ. For now, SSB Ultimate seems to have the strongest hold on this gaming segment that I've seen in a while. Many students have expressed interest in Mortal Kombat - a game many say is leaps and bounds ahead of all other fighters. This specific title will likely never be authorized for HS competitive play in almost any league. Most of the reason for this is political - as those who falsely claimed a connection between violence in competitive video games and violence IRL used Mortal Kombat as an early exemplar of the worst in video games. Additionally, they claim it only appealed to the most prurient interests. Those interested can read about it here.
