Washington Unified School District's Title VII Indian Education Program is for all students who are Native American or Alaska Native, or have a parent/grandparent who is Native American and are enrolled in a federally recognized tribe.
Indian Education Grant offers a variety of services such as education advocacy, academic support, tutoring and social service referrals; and cultural activities for K-12 Native American students. Washington Unified collaborates with our parent committee to support students.
The enrollment window for Indian Education is open through March 2019. If you are interested in the program, and meet eligibility requirements, please complete Form 506 and return it to the Washington Unified School District, Planning and Accountability Department.

WUSD along with Elk Grove Unified, Sac City Unified, and Wilton Rancheria will be offering a week long summer program. The 2019 Sacramento Area Native Youth Summer Program will be help in Elk Grove at the Wilton Rancheria office. Transportation from RC to Elk Grove will be provided. The program runs 6/24 - 6/28 from 10AM to 3PM. Lunch will be provided.
Students will attend cultural workshops and activities, a field trip to Lake Tahoe, and will be able to complete all of their 2019-2020 school year community service hours. If you are interested, please fill out the Google form here: http://bit.ly/2PTIDAo

INDIAN ED SENIORS!!!
WUSD along with several other local school districts, will be hosting an Indian Education Graduation. It will be held on June 1st. If you are interested in participating, please see Ms. Moreno in room B204.
There is still time to apply for various Cobell Scholarships. Deadlines are fast approaching, so go to https://cobellscholar.org/ for more info and to apply.

Starting on 2/26/2019, high school Indian Ed students will be able to participate in an after school digital art program that emphasizes indigenous story telling. This class will be in conjunction with Yolo Arts and will be taught by Mr. Tomas Montoya. Mr. Montoya is a familiar face around both Yolo High School and River City. He has numerous years of experience as an arts educator and in working with the Native American/Chicano communities in the Greater Sacramento Area. This class will take place on the RC campus, and is open to Native HS students from all WUSD campuses.

On November 5, 2018, RCHS Native Ed students were able to attend Sacramento State’s College Motivation Day for Native American High School students. Our students were able to hear from speaker and comedian Ryan Redcorn, watch presentations from colleges on various aspects of applying for college, accessing financial aid, navigating college life, and about various career opportunities. They got to meet other Native Ed students from other local high schools. They were also able to meet with college representatives do discuss admissions requirements and ask questions. Our district was one of the largest groups to attend!

Our students have been invited to apply for the Pipeline to Law Initiative: Native American Law School Admissions Workshop at UC Berkeley, June 26 - 30, 2019. This is a great conference for students who are interested in law careers. You can find more information by checking out this flier.
On March 20, the Wilton Rancheria has invited local parents to attend a workshop on helping Native parents with students in special education. Registration is required. For more information, please check out the following flier.
