The exciting world of Hollywood and TV broadcasting come to life in Film Production. Courses focus on students discovering and developing their creative voice as they learn the technical world of film and the language of visual storytelling.

Utilizing industry standard equipment and editing software, pathway participants experience roles in front of and behind the camera as they produce both narrative and documentary films. Exploring the history of film students will learn about the impact of changing technology and the career opportunities available in the world of film, design, and broadcasting. Students accomplishing the pathway will enter college or the workforce with resume building skills like leadership, presentation ability, writing and design strengths, as well as technical knowledge of film equipment and computing and editing software.

Beginning Video Production
Beginning Video Production is an entry level course in which students learn the basics of creativity, visual thinking, and the piratical aspects of video production: use of video cameras, digital editing, and creating different types of concept videos. Students learn to communicate effectively by working individually and in groups to plan productions, create storyboards, write scripts and edit videos. Students will learn editing by using Adobe After Effects, software that is used by professionals in television and movie production. This course is UC/CSU A-G approved.

Advanced Video Production
Enter into the world of documentary film-making as you peruse expose and breaking news, including helping to produce the weekly RCTV shows. Cover events and activities in and around the school in order to keep the student body, faculty and community informed as to what’s happening at River City. Learn how to read the news on camera, interview people and create news packages. Advanced Video Production students are required to cover after school activities including sporting events and other events or activities that happen throughout the year. This course is UC/CSU A-G approved.

In order for a student to maximize their industry readiness and to receive a CTE pathway graduation cord, they will need to complete all courses within the pathway.
Classes must be taken in sequential order.

HONORS: "Raiders Studio Filmmaker" black/white cord for pathway completion & active participation senior year. "Raiders Studio Honor Filmmaker" black/white cord for pathway completion, passing Film 2 twice, & active participation senior year. 
INTERNSHIP: West Sacramento Home Run (eligible at 16 years of age and completion of 2 courses in a pathway)
