Students who miss class due to an absence or miss class participation due to a medical excuse may earn back ten points for each excuse by completing one of the following assignments. Assignment must be done neatly, follow the proper mechanics of writing, and be turned in by the end of the unit they were absent from. It is the student’s responsibility to complete the assignment on his/her own without being reminded by theinstructor.
- Sport Collage: Choose a theme directly related to a sports, health, or nutritional topic. Find examples to support your theme from magazines, websites, newspapers, or your own personal pictures, then cut them out and attach them to a sheet of paper. Decorate the entire sheet, incorporating a title, a minimum of 8 pictures, 5 facts, and any other related information or designs. Be creative. Write a summary of your collage. The summary should be at least 100 words in length.
- Attend a live sporting event or view a televised event and write about it: There are many local sporting events in our area (soccer, recreation events, or school events). Attend a current sporting event or an event corresponding with your current unit of study, or one approved by the teacher. Write about the event as if you are a sports writer. Who, what, when, where, and how it went, are all questions you should answer. Be specific with locations, scores, players’ names, and the date of the activity. The assignment must be at least 100 words in length.
- Read an article about sports, health, or nutrition: Use an outside source such as the internet or a newspaper to find an article and highlight the key points by writing a summary about your favorite sport or critiquing the article. The assignment must be at least 100 words in length. Attach the article, or a copy to the summary.
- Mile Run: Students may run a mile to make up points for absences. See class webpage for available date and time.
