MS. HOFFMANN & MRS. MCALLISTER
OUR SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE STORY
Years ago the RCHS physics teacher, Mrs. Hoffmann wanted to have a garden.  Mrs. McAllister and her started to grow garden vegetables in the window upstairs of Wiley Hall.  We had so much fun we applied for the WSEF (West Sacramento Educational Fund) and other local grants for money for a greenhouse and supplies.  The West Sacramento Rotary stepped up and donated their time, effort and supplies for building the original eight garden beds. The greenhouse was delivered an built.  A greenhouse club was established, the Farm to Fork Movement happened and course proposals were written for the Agriculture pathway.  More grants were applied for and approved, the garden like the vegetable crops grew and expanded with the support and help from the WUSD school board, fellow teachers, administrators, community members and Jason Billington with our RCHS Construction class.  A garden shed was built, and finishing touches continue to be added weekly with our Farm to Fork classes using the garden for their projects to learn about sustainable agriculture.  Mr.Tait  and Mrs. Baldwin (English teachers at RCHS) now run the garden and the Guardians of the Garden Club take great pride in the new vision of food production and Farm to Fork education.
