We're running out of books

Parents: please contact your state legislators and tell them that their continued delay in textbook adoption is simply unacceptable. Our department, for example, is using books that are over 10 years old and falling apart. Our senior Government and Economics books are especially out-of-date. George W. Bush was just elected president for the first time, according to these pre-9/11 books. Senate Bill 70 (Chapter 7 of the Statutes of 2011) extended the current suspension of the textbook adoption schedule to the 2015-16 school year at the earliest. And that's just when the adoption process will start up again, not when we get new books.

We will not be able to wait that long. Each year, more books are damaged beyond repair, lost, or unreturned. School districts simply cannot afford to foot the bill for textbooks by themselves, although legal settlements and court decrees hold us responsible for maintaining adequate supplies of instructional materials. We need the legislature to act now.
