2017-2018 Service Learning Information

1. Service Learning questions can be referred to Assistant Principal, Mrs. Mabery at x2073, or the AP secretary, Jamie Luna at x2077.

2. Students should turn in all Service Learning paperwork, current and previous year's paperwork, to the correct boxes in the AP office.

3. If you do not complete service learning hours for previous years, you will be ineligible to play a sport and/or a work permit will be denied the following year until those hours have been completed.

12th Make-up date:  November 30, 2017

12th Grade:  January 10, 2018

11th Grade:  February 7, 2018

10th March 14, 2018

9th April 1, 2018

Answers to commonly asked questions.

  • Students will be required to do 8 hours of service learning for every year of high school enrollment at RCHS.
  • Service Learning is a graduation requirement; if students do not complete 8 hours of service learning for every year of enrollment at RCHS, students will be denied a diploma.
  • Service Learning paperwork should be turned into the Assistant Principals' office.
  • Service Learning hours must be done for a nonprofit company or charity group, a school, city or state agency, or a licensed nursing home or daycare.
  • Service learning hours must be 100% voluntary.  
  • Students may complete hours at multiple organizations.
  • Students may not miss any part of the school day to complete service learning hours.
  • Students may work for the same organization for all four years.
  • Students are able to make up previous years' hours in one year, but may not do all 32 hours in one year.
  • Students must schedule service learning hours for the next school year after June 2 of the current school year.
  • It is considered good practice to have the service learning organization cleared by an Assistant Principal if student is unsure the organization will qualify. 
  • Service Learning hours that have not been completed during the 9th grade through 11th grade years must be completed by the end of November of the student's senior year.  If this deadline is not met, the student must submit an appeal.  See Mrs. Mabery in the Assistant Principals' office for the appeal process.

  • Please be aware that our students are working to complete community service for a deadline. Fall English students must complete hours in fall and Spring English students must complete hours in spring. Student must also complete all 8 hours for one organization. So we will only post opportunities that can help students get 8 hours.
