River City Rowing Club Scholarships

Looking for a new sport? River City Rowing Club at the Port of West Sacramento has 4 Full Scholarships available for 2 boys and 2 girls (9-11th grade) willing to take on the challenge of learning a new sport, dedicating to a team and working hard.

Rowing is a full body sport - every muscle gets worked when you take a stroke!  We spend our time rowing on the water, training on the rowing ergometers, lifting weights or performing body weight circuits and plyometrics, and improving flexibility.

Rowing is a great sport, the ultimate of teamwork and camaraderie.  We have dedicated and passionate coaches that love this sport and love teaching it to young athletes. No Experience is necessary!  We will teach you everything you need to know to get on the water and learn this unique sport. Our team is highly competitive and our women’s and men’s varsity squads placed 3rd and 5th respectively in the National Championship last year.  At the same time, we aim to foster growth, development and lifelong love of the sport in a supportive environment that takes pride on goal setting and personal responsibility.  A number of our athletes compete throughout high school and go on to continue rowing in college (many on scholarship). Last year, 11 of 14 seniors received a rowing scholarship to college!  We have 4 teams (Novice Boys and Girls, Varsity Boys and Girls) but we are considered one team and fully support each others efforts on and off the water.

Come try it out, practices are 5 days a week and competitions (regattas) start in just 5 weeks.

If interested please contact Tricia Blocher @ rcrcjrcoach@gmail.com to find out when the try out period begins.

Fall Scholar Athletes

We are proud to inform you of some of the incredible accomplishments of our River City High School Student Athletes. We currently have 305 student-athletes participating in fall athletics. These young men and women have not only represented themselves well in competition, but they have been even more impressive in the classroom. Here are the statistics for our Fall Student Athletes. A huge congratulations to our players, parents, coaches, and teachers. The River City Athletic Department would also like to thank all of the K-8 teachers and coaches for providing such a strong foundation for our scholar-athletes.
